I live in Kazakhstan myself

We’ve been hearing from you...

I live in Kazakhstan myself. I’m German, and my wife is Russian. I brought up moving, and my wife, on the one hand, wants to move so that the children can live in Russian culture, but on the other hand, she doesn’t want to move. Besides the fact that moving itself is something extraordinary, starting all over again after 40 is also a major drawback. We have a home here. Selling it here in Russia wouldn’t be enough to buy an equivalent home. (Prices are higher.) I have a position, standing, a salary, and a team at work. In Russia, I would have to start my career advancement all over again. Even if we consider the program’s priority regions, the relocation grants are unattractive. The only thing that might be of interest is the program for doctors and teachers. But then again, they give 2m for working in the new regions, and while the SVO is underway, not everyone would be willing to go there...
I agree about cars. When I move to Russia for permanent residence, I bring material assets into the Russian Federation from Kazakhstan, for example. In other words, I didn’t take money out of Russia to Kazakhstan; instead, I bring a car back. I bring in equipment—you could say it’s a gift—and I still have to pay the recycling fee, customs duty, and so on.
At one time, both my grandfathers and my wife’s grandfathers were deported to Kazakhstan. Repression, dekulakization, and so on. There are no Virgin Lands activists in our family, so why not come up with a program for people like us to make it easier to obtain citizenship and put things right!? I’m not talking about restoring historical justice, compensation, or anything like that... But at least make it easier to obtain citizenship, provide a quota of state-funded university places for children... Retraining courses if needed to find employment...
As for the Russian language and culture, we have no problems today. But the longer the process is drawn out, the more Russians will adopt the culture and language of the country where they live and grow further apart from Russia.
